What is Open Church?

open-church-aqua-logotype

So here’s what I want you to do. When you gather for worship, each one of you be prepared with something that will be useful for all: Sing a hymn, teach a lesson, tell a story, lead a prayer, provide an insight. (1 Corinthians 14:26-33 (Message) [And we could add, a Scripture, a prophesy, a tongue an on-the-spot song, a word from God]

We practice Open Church periodically at RL by giving the worship team a break, putting our seats in circle and inviting everyone to speak out for the mutual edification of the body.

Here are some practical guideline for during the service:

speak for no more than 2-4 minutes

if you have a prayer, story, insight, just share it

if you have a song, make sure it’s on the list and just start singing

if its not on the list, you could go back and ask whoever is on the slides to find it

its okay if there is silence

when someone shares something, let’s try to finish with that topic before moving on (ex. give 2-3 minutes)

if you have something for a specific person, go to them.  If it is a strong message, ask a leader to help you discern

What is a Sentness exercise?

sentness

Let’s see how inventive we can be in encouraging love and helping out,  (The Message (Heb 10:24)

Paul encourages believers to “Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.  Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.“(Colossians 4:5). However we are often blinded to the opportunities right in front of us. To remind us, we periodically practice Sentness exercises where we invite people from our church to share a bit of their life then we, as a church, declare ways they are kingdom workers.

Example:

fact shared – “I’m a lawyer”   spiritual truth – “you bring justice to this world”

fact shared  – “my family aren’t Christian”  spiritual truth – “the gospel has moved, from the beginning, from home to home. You may be the one that Jesus uses to bring new life to your family. Keep loving, serving, & praying for them and looking for opportunities to share the power of Jesus in your life.

Gathering of the Clans

Here is an update on an event happening in our region:

GatheringoftheClansPosterfinal

WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT?
Background to “Gathering of the Clans”
I met Rose and Kevin Sambrook of Rhema Restoration Ministries in Fermanagh, Northern Ireland when I was part of an international intercessors
team for the G8 Summit Meeting in in 2013.Some time after the G8 Summit when Rose was in prayer, she felt led of the Lord to “Gather the Clans
to Worship”. The first Gathering was held in 2014 with Chuck Pierce  and Ray Hughes as guest speakers. During the first service Chuck Pierce
presented Rose and Kevin with a seven-branched menorah, and said  “the Lord wants you to take this menorah to seven nations and release the
Sound of the Celts”. As Rose was returning to her seat, these place names came to her mind: Whales, Georgia (USA), Canada, Scotland,
New Zealand and Israel.
In further prayer, Rose asked “What is the Gathering of the Clans all about?” and sensed the Lord say ” I want to unlock the sound of the Celts
once again, to unlock the signs of revival throughout the nations, those carriers of fire, those burning ones, I say I want to unlock perseverance.
tenacity (a spirit that refuses to give up), the fearless ones, the committed ones, the loyal ones. To unlock the protectors of the Word, the selfless
ones, those who are not ashamed of Me or my Word and who will stand for the Truth. Warriors arise, bravehearts arise, the time has come for your
true identity to be released, release the battle cry, run to join the ranks, run to the battle for the victory is yours. Possess your destiny, possess your
identity, its yours for the taking so step up and step into your place, “IT’S TIME”.
The gatherings have been in Ireland in 2014, Whales in May 2015 and Atlanta Georgia November 2015. Halifax Nova Scotia is the fourth, with Five
planned for Scotland in September 2016, Six in New Zealand in 2017 and Seven in Israel in 2017.
We are humbled and excited to be able to co-host this Gathering with Kevin and Rose, and know it will be a strategic time to stir up the Warrior within
and to advance His Kingdom.

Feb 28, 2016. Jesus love for the father – resources

Here are some resources that Phil Referenced during his sermon: “Jesus love for the Father”, Feb 28, 2016:

PPT: Feb 28, Jesus love for the Father

Phil encouraged us to try 3 things to experience God’s grace in fresh ways and express our love for him.

1 – Have we experienced the good pleasure of our Father?

try the Father’s Love Letter: Fathers Love Letter (PDF version). You may view a video version of the Father’s love letter here.

2 – How can we spend quality time with Him?

try starting your day with a DONE list (instead of a to-do list) to remind us of God’s goodness. You can also try journalling your own GOD BOOK where you document times where you felt God’s tangible love and grace. This can latter serve as a reminder in dark times.

3 – Are we spending time caring about what God cares about?

Good luck  in this prayer. It can change your life.

Forum on “embracing the Heart of Racial Justice”

A message from Larry Levy at Vineyard Church:
Greetings my brothers & sisters in Christ and Creation,

In honour of African Heritage Month, there will be a Community Forum on “embracing the Heart of Racial Justice” at the Vineyard Ministry Centre in Lower Sackville.

Please join us for this very interactive panel. Come and invite members of your Church family and community to this Special evening of Listening, Learning and Sharing. It’s our prayer that we would raise the climate of cultural awareness and understanding within the Body of Christ.  One thing remains very true: “you cannot look at the ministry of Jesus and not see ministry to the marginalized.”
“Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend.” – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Nova Scotia Leadership Prayer Breakfast

NSLPB Purpose: To provide a safe place to be inspired, to pray for our leaders, and to consider the love and relevance of Jesus.

Now in our 35th year, join business, political, Church, non-profit and other NS leaders at this celebration. Being held May 5, 2016 at the CUNARD CENTRE, we are delighted to have Brian McConaghy from Ratanak International, as our guest speaker. Brian will speak on a timely and important subject with connections to Halifax.

Linda Carvery will lend her amazing vocals to our event and Mayor Mike Savage will be our MC. We have moved to a new venue for the event and it promises to be a wonderful morning of praise and song with an exceptional speaker. You will leave feeling awesome!

The event runs from 7:30-9:15. Tickets are now on sale throughwww.nslpb.ca at the cost of $40/ ticket and $400 for a table of 10. Ticket prices will increase after April 1.  We are offering our past buyers first crack at the best seats in the house. We value your support over the past few years.

This year, in our effort to support new Syrian families to our area, we are asking for your support by purchasing an extra seat, or donating a seat at your table. We would like to welcome the important new members of HRM to our community and feel this is a great opportunity to introduce them to many leaders in Halifax.

We look forward to seeing you on May 5 at the Cunard Centre

update: Legalising Euthanasia & Doctor Assisted Suicide

Here is an Update from Canada Family Action

Dear Friend,

Just to be clear, here at Canada Family Action we,

  • DO NOT want to see Physician Assisted Suicide, Euthanasia, Assisted Dying, Medical Aid in Dying or any other creatively expressed form of this made legal here in Canada.
  • Also, we DO NOT believe that ‘a majority of Canadians’ support physician assisted suicide (as the media is reporting).

You see this is not simply a matter of, “helping someone living in excruciating pain end their life in a dignified way” as euthanasia activists will always lead you to believe.

Pain management protocols are already established here in Canada and administered by palliative care professionals all working together to provide comfort at end of life.

What we DO NOT support is legalizing something that puts the safety and security of citizens at risk.

We therefore believe that it is more important to affirm our commitment to protect citizens when they are at their most vulnerable moments of their lives and focus on upgrading and improving palliative care services.

  • The newly born,
  • The mentally ill,
  • The elderly,
  • The homeless,
  • Persons with alcohol and drug dependencies,
  • Persons with disabilities, and
  • People with depression

All of these people, at a time when they need our help the most, will be put at risk if physician assisted suicide is made legal.

And the argument that euthanasia and physician assisted suicide will primarily be used to alleviate a person’s pain at the end of life?  Well…the data from wherever it has been made legal does not support that argument.

Not anywhere.

That is why we are fighting hard in this battle against the legalization of Physician Assisted Suicide here in Canada.

That is why we are meeting with federal and provincial politicians.  That is why we are sending out emails, writing letters and using social media.

And that is why we are organizing a National Telephone Town Hall on this issue of Euthanasia and Physician Assisted Suicide.

We need to share the truth about what is going to happen and who is going to die here in Canada after we take this very dangerous step across the red line of what many consider to be post-birth abortion.

So here is how YOU can help:

  1. Sign up here to make sure you are on the list to participate in the National Telephone Town Hall.
  2. Download this petition, get signatures and return it to our office so we can present your names to provincial and federal government representatives.
  3. Contact your local MP and MLA directly and let them know you are concerned about euthanasia and physician assisted suicide being made legal.
  • Find your MP – here
  • Find your MLA/MPP – here
  • Download Sample letter – here
  • Carter vs Canada information – here
  • Belgium Update – here
  • Necessary protections for the vulnerable – here

So on the road ahead let’s stay in touch!

We will continue to provide you with quick and easy ways to take action and get involved, and like always we’ll be fighting hand in hand with you and your friends across the nation to help keep bad ideas from becoming bad legislation.

Please forward this email to your family and friends, encourage them to take action as well and let’s grow our team!

See you on the road ahead!

Doug Sharpe
President & Executive Director

PS. Please consider making an additional financial contribution to our Telephone Town Hall Project here. Our goal is to raise $20,000. This will enable us to reach out to over 200,000 of our fellow Canadians from coast to coast!  Thank you for your support!!
